"Egbert," Karkat asked, following John through the Skaian battlefield. "What are we doing here?"
John turned around and smiled at Karkat, "It's a secret!" He paused, tilting his head to the side, "Although, you'll find out in like a minute so I guess it doesn't really matter
John grabbed Karkat's hands, the troll protested angrily, "John what is this? I swear if you fucking dragged me all the way out here to put moves on me or some shit like that I'll kill you."
The human boy laughed, "Not a homosexual Karkat!"
"You keep saying that, but it doesn't mean I believe you." Karkat turned away to look at their surroundings.
John said very softly under his breath, "sometimes I don't believe me either."
"What was that fuckass?" he turned back to John.
"What was what?" John asked innocently.
"You just said something, more like mumbled it, what was it? I wasn't paying attention."
"I didn't saaaaaay anything," he giggled, "Karkat you must be imagining things."
"Yeah, sure, whatever." He took one more look around. "There isn't anything here, it's a wasteland. What point was there in bringing me all the way out here? I sincerely doubt your master plan was to hold hands with me."
"I brought you here so I could show you something." John said suddenly calmer. "It's really neat; I think you'll like it."
Karkat was going to question him further, but John had closed his eyes. "John?" He felt the boys hands close tighter on his own. Wind started to gently swirl around the two boys; Karkat looked around a bit panicky. "Egbert what are you doing?"
John opened his eyes, "flying." The wind picked up surrounding them both; their feet began to leave the ground.
Karkat shut his eyes, "John put me down right now, I don't think this is a good idea." He could feel them rising in the air, but he didn't dare look.
"Karkat," John said soothingly, "It'll be ok, trust me. I won't let you fall, I promise."
Karkat opened his eyes slowly, he focusing on John's deep blue ones. He didn't dare look down. "Egbert please put me down."
"What?" he teased, "You afraid of heights or something?" Karkat bit his lip and tried to avoid looking John in the eye without looking anywhere else. John's eyes widened a bit, a smile creeping across his face, "You are, aren't you?"
"Fuck. Yeah, Egbert I am." Karkat tried to hide his embarrassment but failed horribly.
"You don't have to be afraid, I'm the Heir of Breath remember?" the wind swirled a bit stronger to emphasize, "I can control all parts of the air, so trust me, ok?"
"Yeah because that makes me feel safe. Do you see wings on my back? No? Then what makes you think I need to be in the fucking air. Trolls don't belong up here, so put me-" he was interrupted by John suddenly shooting up further into the sky. "JOHN!" he clung to the boy tightly, "oh shit, oh shit, oh shit," he clung to John's shirt, "ok, you've had your fun. You've embarrassed me thoroughly can we go now?"
"Of course not, I haven't done what I set out to do."
"And that was?" Karkat asked hesitantly.
John smiled, "You said that you never got the chance to fly right?" Karkat nodded. "Well, I wanted to show you the sky."
Karkat stared into John's eyes, they seemed to sparkle with happiness, Karkat could tell he was being sincere. The troll looked around to see what John had meant. "F-fuck." His eyes opened wide, he could see the stars, they seemed so close, and below him were fluffy clouds, "It's beautiful." The stars seemed to glow and illuminate everything around them, the light played off of John's hair, making it shine.
John was overjoyed that Karkat liked it. "See? It's so amazing." Karkat nodded facing the boy again, "I felt so sad when you said you hadn't gotten the chance to see it. I just wanted to share it with you."
Karkat felt calm, and relaxed his death-grip on John's shirt. "T-thanks, fuckass."
"You're welcome, Karkat."
They floated above the clouds watching the stars. Karkat's eyes darted back and forth looking at everything. It was all so breathtaking. He couldn't believe he had missed out on it. John was right next to him, watching too. The human had been so nice to the troll since they had met face to face. Karkat often found it was hard to stay mad at the boy. 'In fact, I've found it hard to think straight around him. His carefree nature, that dorky smile, it's like he was made to be the opposite of everything I am. And I can't get enough of it.' The troll had given up on pursuing a kismesis relationship; he just didn't hate John anymore. Instead he found his feelings becoming more flushed. 'But that stupid boy, he just didn't get it did he? Not a homosexual, fuck.' Karkat had been contemplating his next move for a long time. 'Well, I have do something, I can't just fucking sit on my ass all day.' "John," Karkat started. The boy glanced his way, "I uh
" he couldn't get the words to come out. "Ah fuck it."
John was about to ask what was wrong, but he soon found his lips captured by Karkat. His widened in shock. Karkat kissed him gently, being careful of his teeth, he didn't want to hurt the boy. John couldn't believe what was happening. His mind reeled and he felt dizzy. 'K-Karkat's
Suddenly the gentle breeze around them vanished and they began to fall. Karkat broke the kiss, "John?" he shook the boy gently, "John? You there?" The speed in which they fell increased. "Egbert, stop messing with me. Come on, John!" Karkat began to freak out. John however seemed lost in space. Karkat had seen this happen with the boy before, sometimes it was like the boy's mind had completely gone blank. "John do the windy thing! Come on!" He shook John with a bit more force. "Look, I know you're not a homosexual or whatever, I'm sorry. Just, snap out of it!" He became more frantic, the ground had come into view. "Egbert!" He clung to the boy's shirt again, pressing his face into his chest. "You promised you wouldn't let anything bad happen to me! John! Jo-" he felt lips press against his own. Hands found Karkat's and held them firm, and the wind swirled around them faster than before.
They shot back up above the clouds, spinning slowing. John pulled away, blushing deeply. "Uh
"What the fuck was that, John?" Karkat asked, out of breath. "You told me you were in control." John could see the Troll was shaken up and scared. Red streaks left behind from tears were visible on his cheeks.
"Well I didn't expect you to kiss me!" he said defensively.
"And I didn't expect you to lose your shit about it!"
"I'm sorry, Karkat. I didn't mean to scare you like that. I don't know what came over me."
"Don't do it again, ever." He tried to sound stern, but his voice wasn't behind him yet.
"I won't Karkat, I won't." John pulled the troll close. "I really am sorry."
John looked into Karkat's cool gray eyes. "Karkat, what happened back there
do you have feelings for me?"
"Yes, flushed feelings, actually." He admitted. "And you? You kissed me back."
John looked away then back again, "Here's where I say I'm not a homosexual
and I call bullshit." Karkat finished.
"Heh heh," John laughed, "you caught me." he smiled at Karkat, "I guess I just didn't want to admit it."
"Ugh, you fuckass." He reached up to put a hand on John's face, "are you going to freak out this time?"
"N-no." John closed his eyes, waiting for Karkat's kiss. The troll was gentle and carefully kissed John. When they broke apart John watched the blush spread across Karkat's face. They resumed watching the stars, hand in hand. "So, Karkat, do you like the sky?" John put his head on the troll's shoulder.
"I love it," he said resting his head on John's. "We can come back, right?"
"Of course, anytime you want."
