General Update

With the next update of Still the Same I think I can come safely off of Hiatus. *like it even did me any good* actually it did a lot of good. I need the break. That doesn't mean you guys can go back to asking when new chapters are going to be out. I still won't know.

Speaking of new chapters, just so most of you know, if I start a story, I will end it. I won't drop it. This isn't like "Inside These Halls" where the plot got stupid and after I took two years off I realized that freshmen in high school Tien couldn't write anything at all. This is vastly different. I'm to a point where I'm comfortable with my writing abilities and will keep plugging away at the many chapters of these stories one by one.

Something fun. I'm going to an anime convention known as Anime Detour this weekend. I'll be gone Thursday through Sunday and won't be online to answer messages or notes. I will be able to check them, but my phone never replies right. I'll be sure to bring lots of pictures back and do a journal of my crazy stupid adventures as Karkat Vantas and Jake English.

Hmmmm hey guys can we have a serious discussion here for a min?


There's something that's been bugging me for a while. It's come to my attention multiple times that people have been basically ripping my ideas off. Usually I don't give a single fuck and quietly rant or type a text wall to a friend. Then I get over it. But recently I've seen some stuff that really does piss me off enough to mention here. I won't post links, or tell names or any of that, it's just drama causing bullshit.

I know I cannot say I "own" an AU.
But lets talk real quick about what is cool and not cool about using ideas.
Cool:
Reading something and getting inspired by it and creating a story with your own plot, designs and ideas that are like the AU read.
Not Cool:
Making an AU with the exact same plot as someone else's and even using their designs that they described in writing and calling it yours.
Cool:  
Reading a fic and being inspired to write something with a similar theme.
Not Cool:
COPY PASTING LINES FROM OTHER FICS DIRECTLY INTO YOURS.

A little about what I said before about "owning" AU's. I cannot possibly claim to say that all slave AU's are rip offs of mine for example. Why? Because I sure as hell didn't come up with the idea. But I can say that I came up with the situation and how they behave and the dialogue in it. I cannot possibly say that everyone writing a JohnKat where John takes Karkat flying is cheating off me. That's stupid and makes me look like a jackass. What I CAN bitch and moan about is when I see lines DIRECTLY from my fics in other peoples fics.

Guys. I'm not stupid. I know my own writing, I know my own sentences and dialogue. I can tell when you copy paste from my fics into yours. Especially when I go to thank you for a watch and browse your gallery and see them. Yes guys I look through your stuff because I like to know my watchers better. I read stuff in clubs, and I notice when my stuff is re-packaged. It irks me even more when that same person watches me, like did you guys think I wouldn't notice when you post my work into clubs I watch? It doesn't happen often, but it's happened enough for me to say stop it please.  

I will never go out and say anything, unless someone copies all of a fic or something. It just makes me sad and disappointed to see my work embedded in other peoples writing.

Now there was something else I wanted to bring up, the use of headcanons. Those I don't really care about. Go forth and use them. If you think trolls purr great! Use it! I mean I borrowed the trolls chirp headcanon from Miko, one of my favorite authors on Archive of Our Own, and she got the idea from someone else. Headcaonons are sorta meant to be shared and adopted. So have fun with that.

So I guess the tl,dr version of this mini rant is don't copy people's ideas. They work hard on them, make your own that you can be proud of.
